Introduction

In this section we will explain you everything about FlyingPowerBoat.com. This website and our new flying powerboat web shop is your starting point for buying radio controlled flying hydrofoam powerboats. The first time We saw this unique machine on the internet was in late 2004 as it was published by its inventor: Michael Connally. His machine was called the Hydro Foam and his movie showing a proto type was a very popular download. The original Hydro Foam is not being produced yet on large scale unfortunately.

What are the different Hydro Foam types?

Since demand was high and no products were available, other producers came into the market of RC Hydro Foam flying boat - plane - car - machines. These other manufacturers made up new names for the hydro foam (as the inventor Michael Connally called them).

The past months several types with different names appeared on the market. The hydro foam is now also know as Hydro Plane, Hydro Float, Red's Miss Hangar One, Hydro Goose, Spaceship, Hydro Kat, Piranha, Miss Fanfold, Hydroflyer etc. Basically these are all the same type of vehicle: the ultimate flying boat gadget.

What is a Hydrofoam exactly?

Hydro foam (rc boat, rc plane and rc car in one machine) are unique new radio controlled gadgets. They combine three machines in one: it is a powerful radio controlled speedboat, it can be used on land (grass, concrete, streets) as well as it's main function: it is also a rc plane. So combining a rc speedboat, rc plane and rc car in one machine. As the video shows you: this is ultimate gadget for big boys!

What is the relation between Hydro Planes and flyingpowerboat.com?

What is a Hydro Plane made off?

The original hydrofoam material is Depron. This foam material is ultra light and is used a lot in RC modeling. Hydrofoam planes use a powerful electric brushless motor (called screamer) and lipo battery. The planes are light and powerful enough to let this amazing machine fly and do all stunts.

Besides Depron we see an increase of the usage of EPP lately. The manufacturers using EPP developed the Hydrofoam concept to a new level. EPP is very elastic. Much more flexible than Depron and even after hard crashes the chance on (severe) damage is smaller when you use an EPP plane than Depron.

The disadvantage of EPP is that the production process is a bit more expensive. The EPP models are (only) a bit more expensive because of this, but the big advantage is that these planes are often suited for less practiced pilots since severe damage after a crash is less likely.

Is it difficult flying Hydrofoams?

You need to get the skills to fly. You can start practicing on grass and start on the ground only. After you have the hang of it you might want to try a few hops. Grass is best suited for covering up some of the harder landings. Make your hops more often and longer. Practice and learn how the machine reacts before taking of since in general it is not easy to fly a hydrofoam plane. it is wise to get someone to help you if you never flew a rc plane or be patient and practice a lot before taking the risk of having a severe crash.

If you are a beginner you might want to check out one of the EPP hydroplane models. If you want to use the hydrofoam right away, focus on buying one of the complete sets. They are often RTF and RTR (ready to fly and ready to race) and contain (almost) everything to start flying today! The kits need to be constructed and you need extra equipment and electronics since most of the time they are not included.

So novice pilots might best start looking at a RTF complete set made out of mainly EPP.
